The latest hullabaloos

Alexis wasn't too happy about having her picture taken. We were bored and decided to take a random trip to Mt. St. Helens, WA, although it was cloudy and pouring rain, so we didn't see much, but it was still fun... at least Adam and I enjoyed it. Alexis... not so much.

Alexis loves baths!

We had a snowstorm and she LOVED it!

Me and my sweet girl!

Just a little glimpse of her awesome personality!

I went to a Mitt Romney rally in Bellevue, WA. That's his motorcade in behind me.

Alexis being a big girl using her fork!

I always go so long in between posts. I always promise to be better at it, yet somehow manage to suck at it. Oh well. Sorry to disappoint. Maybe if I don't say I'll try, it'll be better. :)

Life is so good. 2011 was a rough year, but so far I have loved ever bit of 2012. Hopefully I don't jinx myself now that I said that! :)

My sweet girl is growing so so fast! She's no longer a baby and loves to do everything herself including being a big girl and eating with her fork. She loves baths and asks for them every day, sometimes multiple times a day! She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! Everything is Mihee and Minneeee. We are going to visit Disney World this Summer which I am excited for! I can't wait to see how she reacts to seeing Mickey this year. She loved him when she was little, so I don't think it will be any different. Alexis loves to go WEEEEEE as she slides down the stairs backwards, turn all the lights on and off, say "doggie oof oof oof," and "birdie, oof oof oof" (she doesn't quite understand that birds don't bark, but it's still cute. I taught her the sign language for bird, so she likes to do that too when she says bird). She LOVES to say "hi" and bye" and blow kisses to everyone that passes and I get told daily I have a gerber baby! I love it! I know I'm not bias in thinking she's cute... she just is! :) She has a very strong personality and sometimes it exhausts me, but I really do feel SO blessed to have her in my life. I went back and was reading my posts on Alexis' birth and I can't imagine how it would have been losing her.... I still find myself almost having anxiety attacks over the thought of losing her. I know I need to get over it and understand the Lord's will in all things, but for now I am just going to be the over protective mom that I am.

I feel so blessed to be married to Adam! This year will be 3 years. I have a deeper love for him then I ever have, and I am so happy to be with him for eternity. He is so sweet to me and works so hard to provide for our family. He has really proven (not that he needed to, but it's good to be reminded) how much he loves me. Alexis is so in love with him as well, always say "dada" all throughout the day and runs into his arms when he comes home. They are so cute together! I love watching them play and read together (another one of Alexis' favorite things to do! She reads to herself and says AAeee IIIIooooUUUuuuu-we've been working on our vowels :) ).

So I made a goal and I stuck with it! YAY! About 6 months after I had Alexis I noticed my weight was creeping up. A lot of it had to do with the fact that I didn't eat bread for 8 years, so I when I started eating it again, I ate way too much. I started to get really down on myself. I weighed in at the doctors office at 143lbs, which for a lot of people may not sound like a lot, but for me being only 5'3 and very small boned, it was a lot! I decided to join a gym and start working out and counting calories. It was discouraging at first because initially I wasn't losing, but after about a month I noticed slowly but surely, pound by pound, the weight started coming off. Today I weigh in at 120lbs. Almost to my goal!! I made a goal of 115lbs. I seemed to have stalled at 120, but I know if I keep working at it, I'll get there soon. I just know I feel SO much better, and it's so nice to be able to fit into everything! When I got married and when I got pregnant I weighed 135, so being 120 is great! It feels good to know I can do something and stick to it! It is so liberating! Another thing I have started doing is Scentsy. I loved their products because they made my house smell so good! So I took the plunge and became and independent consultant. So far it's been a little bit of a slow start, but I know it takes time and a lot of hard work. I really hope it works out so I can make a little extra $$.

Anyways

People are often unreasonable
Forgive Them Anyway
If you are kind, people may accuse you of having selfish ulterior motives
Be Kind Anyway
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and genuine enemies
Succeed Anyway
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you
Be Honest And Sincere Anyway
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight
Create Anyway
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous
Be Happy Anyway
The good you do today, will often be forgotten
Do Good Anyway
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough
Give Your Best Anyway
In the final analysis, it is between you and God
It Was Never Between You And Them Anyway

Mother Teresa

I read that quote on someones blog and I really liked it. We've had several crazy things happen recently and it seemed very applicable.

Alexis turned one on the 4th! I am so happy and proud to be her mom! She just lights up my day! We took her to Chuck-e-cheese and Red Robin where we got some awesome pictures and we threw her a b-day party with our close friends. It was monkey themed so we had monkey cupcakes that my friend Janiel helped me make (she is the cupcake queen!) which were SO cute, but took forever to make (of course totally worth it!), lots of food, bananas for the monkeys, puzzles, toys, and of course Alexis tearing into the cake. It was so funny when she got her cake with the candle because she wanted to touch the fire, but Adam blew it out before she could touch the flame and it scared her really bad so she started crying. It was sad at first, but once we showed her she could eat her cake, she was happy and dug in. I was very grateful for the friends who came and made her party so much fun. We are very blessed to have so many good people in our lives! I would be posting lots of fun pictures, but you will know why I am not when you read my next paragraph.

Monday evening I went to the gym, Costco and to my in-laws for dinner. Adam called me at 8 when he got home and told me the house had been broken into. I didn't know much info other than the window by the door was busted and they reached in and unlocked the door. I was shaken up and immediately left my in-laws to come home. I got home and just like I imagined there was glass everywhere in the front entry, no window, walked into my bedroom that had been ransacked with clothes and drawers everywhere then went into my closet which was even worse than the room. They pulled everything off the shelves, hangars, pulled things out of boxes we had in there, etc. I was most mortified to find my laptop and both my cameras (professional and handheld) missing. I had all of Alexis' pictures and videos from the moment she was born on my laptop and all of her birthday pictures on my camera. I hadn't been able to put them on Facebook yet, so I didn't have any copies or back-up of the birthday pictures. Even then I had over 10,000 pictures and videos, most of which were not on Facebook that were gone all gone. In addition to the cameras and laptop they took, speakers to the computer (which they broke in the process... dummies), Adam's hair trimmer (I don't know what they thought they were taking... maybe a gun from the looks of the case? LOL), an empty fossil wallet, all of my jewelery including a hair comb my grandma gave to me and my young women medallion (except my wedding rings, thank heavens!) and my jewelery box which Adam bought me for my birthday when he was deployed. So far that's all we've noticed gone, but we just barely realized the trimmers were gone when Adam went to cut his hair for work, though, so there might be more missing and we just haven't realized it. I honestly don't care about the material things. If they are that hard up they can take the computers and jewelery and I would just be bummed, but the pictures and videos were SO important to me. I can never replace those memories. I've been checking craigslist and have gone to every pawn shop in the area with a copy of the police report, but still nothing. :( I doubt I ever will, but still pray several times a day to somehow get the pictures and videos back. I don't understand how people can be so cruel. Adam is such a great guy. Even though we were shaken up and upset, he still prayed for the burglars that night as we said our prayers and attempted to sleep. What a perfect example of forgiveness. I think it would be easier for me if I could get over the pictures that meant so much to me, more than any money, laptop, camera, or pieces of jewelery. I grieve in a way for those pictures, if that makes any sense at all. I hope I can fully forgive the people who have hurt us and I'm sure I will, but I know it will take time not to jump every time the house creeks and be reminded of those precious pictures of my sweet baby girl, or to be painfully scared to walk in the house when I come home from running errands. I can be grateful that we are ok and we weren't home.

Finding my place in this world

I'm trying hard to find my place in this crazy world. I recently realized when I was making a mormon.org profile I haven't accomplished much in my life other than having Alexis, and I really want to change that. I don't play the piano, I'm not a runner, I don't bake, I don't have the best body, I don't have a job, I never got straight A's no matter how hard I tried. I'm mediocre in all that I do and never feel like I can compete with others. My goal for this next year is to accomplish something, whether it's being certified to teach a fitness class, or get a job where I can work from home while watching my sweet baby girl.

Ok my rant is over. :) It's been a while since I have updated my blog. We had a busy summer. This is what we've done over the summer-
  • Alexis and I went to VA to surprise my family and go to my little brothers eagle court of honor.
  • Adam, Alexis and I went to Canada to visit my cousins and Aunt
  • We went to FL so Adam could do something for the military and took Disney World.
  • This last weekend we went to LA for a Yellow Ribbon Ceremony. Adam and I got tickets to the Doctors TV show, which was fun. I was most excited to see Jillian Michael's, who I love!
Alexis is turning one is 2 weeks! I can't believe it!! She has grown so fast!! She now has 5 teeth, 2 on the bottom 3 on the top. The top 3 just came in this last week. She is 23lbs!! Oh I love that girl!!

Alexis looks so much like Adam did when he was the same age! It's crazy!!

Last Friday Adam and I decided to drive to the temple. After the temple we went to dinner and to a mall to walk around. We realized Alexis had left us presents while we were at dinner, so I went to change her in the restroom. Little did we know exactly how much she went! Her poop was out the sides and up her back! Talk about gross! Of course I had extra bottles, pacifiers, burp clothes, toys, diapers and wipes, but no extra outfits!! So she got put in her car seat sporting just a diaper. Daddy made her this cute makeshift snuggie to keep her warm in her car seat so she didn't have to be naked. LOL! She LOVED it!

This was right before I gave Alexis a bath. Anytime she doesn't have to wear clothes, she is super happy! She also loves bath time!

She loves her bumbo chair. She sat in it and just smiled and talked to me for quite a while!

She is getting REALLY good at holding her head up! She still hates tummy time after a minute, but she's really strong!

My growing girl

Alexis is becoming SO much fun. Everyday she manages to melt my heart even more (even though I never think it's possible for it to be melted anymore). She is seriously SO sweet and loving. I find myself just watching her sleep because she's SO cute!

Her latest milestones are-
She laughs as you can see in the video
She's 15lbs! Holy moly! What a chunker! She has the most awesome rolly polly legs.
She holds onto her rattle for dear life
She hits toys on her play mat when they stop moving
When her binky fell out of her mouth the other day she grabbed it and put it back in- although I think that was a fluke.
She smiles and talks to anyone. I'm gonna need to keep an eye on her when she's bigger!

Alexis Faith

On October 3 I went into Madigan Army Medical Center to be induced. I was suppose to call labor and delivery at 5am and come in at 6am, but they were full, so they told me to call again at 9am. I called at 9 and they were still full, so I waited for them to call me. They called at about noon and said they had a room ready for me, so Adam and I got there at 1. They checked me in, got us to our room, changed me, checked how dilated I was (only a fingertip) and started getting me ready to be induced. They hooked up my IV, which took about 1/2 an hour because I have small veins and they blew 3 different ones before I finally asked for someone else who got it on the first try. After the IV finally got in, they put something called a balloon in me to help me dilate. at about 2:30pm my water broke. It was really funny because the guy who gives the epidurals was talking to me and I felt this big warm gush. I kinda ignored it and thought I would say something to the nurse when he was finished talking about the epidurals, but he started to make a weird face, so I looked down and the bed and all my sheets were completely drenched. I was like... "uhh, I think my water just broke." He said, "Oh ok. Good. I thought you were peeing yourself or something!" LOL! Believe it or not, I don't pee myself... :p They were worried that Alexis had to much stress on her because her heart rate was kind of high, so they put a saline lock in me to help give her cushion.

Labor itself went really fast, at least it felt like it did. I got checked at 8:00pm and I was dilated to a 5, so they asked me if I wanted an epidural. I had always been told if your water breaks you are in the worst pain, but I didn't feel like it was that bad. I wasn't going to get one right then, but my Aunt convinced me to. It was nice because I felt no pain at all and I didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes like before because I had a catheter. Around midnight my nurse Lee (who was awesome!) took my temperature because I was shaking so bad and felt weak. It was 104 degrees. They told me I had an infection called Chorio and gave me antibiotics. At 1:30 they prepped me to start pushing. They told me they were worried that Alexis had to much stress on her because every time I had a contraction her heart rate would drop to the 50's, but when it went away it would jump to the 220's, so they said they would probably have to take her to the other side of the room when she came out, but not to worry. I was completely oblivious to everything that was really going on, even though I not only had my main doctor, but the head of Labor and Delivery in the room the whole time I was pushing. I had to wear oxygen the whole time and I was SO thirsty, but I didn't think pushing was all that bad until after about an hour when I seriously felt like my head was going to explode. I started to get really exhausted and the doctor started saying I had to get her out now. So I pushed as hard as I could and she still wasn't coming, so he said if I didn't get her out on that push I was going to have an emergency c- section. That was a huge motivation because I already had a 3rd degree episiotomy and I didn't want to have the pain from a c-section too. They had already tried forceps and the vacuum twice (both time it popped off her head-i'm pretty sure my doctor who was very professional let out a swear word when it kept popping off) On the next contraction I pushed with everything I had and she came out at 3:38am. I felt a gush (which was the saline lock they gave me to cushion Alexis) which they doctor compared to niagara falls.

Adam quickly cut her cord and they took her away to the other side of the room. I was trying to look at her, but there were so many people in the room I couldn't see. I kept asking where she was and saying I wanted to see her, but they just told me she was having a hard time breathing, but was ok and I would see her in a minute. The next thing I knew I saw a doctor running out of the room with her with a bunch of people behind her. I again didn't know what was going on, and they said again she was just having some troubles breathing and they wanted to check her in the NICU. I was so exhausted I just started feeling sick. I said I think I am going to throw up, and Adam and the nurse both scrambled to get me something, but I couldn't stop it and right then threw up all over myself, my pillow and the bed. I felt so horrible. Exhausted, low-blood sugar from not eating since noon the day before, and worried about my sweet baby. I kept asking about Alexis and they said they didn't know anything and someone would come talk to Adam and I when they knew more. I wanted Adam to go to the NICU to see her, but they wouldn't let him. They stitched and cleaned me up and we still didn't hear anything. I was SO hungry, but it was hard for them to find food I could eat since I can't have gluten, but they eventually found a TV dinner that had mashed potatoes and corn I could eat since the dining facility didn't open til 7. We again waited and waited to hear what was going on with our baby when finally at 7 the doctor from the NICU came in to tell us what was happening. She said that Alexis completely stopped breathing and they couldn't get a blood pressure and it took all 20 doctors and nurses in the NICU to stabilize her. She told us she didn't know if Alexis would make it, that it was just a waiting game now. They said because of my contracting Chorio and the cord being around her neck she had a lot of stress on her and she had contracted neonatal sepsis which is blood poisoning. They ended up giving her a blood transfusion to flush the infection. They said we could go see her, but it was going to take me a little while to get over there because I had to get cleaned up again and get into a wheelchair, so I sent Adam over to be with her. While my nurse went to get my wheelchair I just broke out in tears and prayed for my baby. I knew she was going to be ok. Even though I was emotional because of everything she had to go through, I always had an overwhelming feeling of peace.

At about 7:30am I was finally on my way to see my baby! On the way over to the NICU Twinkle Twinkle Little Star started playing over the hospital intercom. My nurse Lee said, "They are playing this for you and your baby." I got a little teary eyed. We finally made it over the NICU and I was met by Alexis' doctor who told me she was lethargic and I wouldn't let anyone touch her. They said they didn't think she would let me touch her, but I still wanted to, so I reached up and touched her hand and said "hi honey, I'm your mommy. I love you!" She wrapped her fingers around my finger and didn't let go. I knew she knew who I was and I fell in love with her immediately. It was so hard seeing her because she still had the ventilator down her throat and wires hooked up all over and up her belly and in her hands. I knew she was in pain and I couldn't even hold her. After about 1/2 an hour they took me to my recovery room where I was able to eat and tried to sleep. I was so beyond exhausted because of not sleeping the night before I had her or that night, but I was so worried about my baby. I had nurses coming in and out of the room and the lactation consultant advising me how to feed her and what I should do since I couldn't feed her right away. Between everyone in and out, a loud roommate who did nothing but talk really loud on her phone, pumping to try and get my milk in, being in extreme pain and a lot of other things I only got to sleep a couple hours. At around 3pm I was told I could finally come hold and feed Alexis. It was the first time I got out of the bed since early that morning after I have seen Alexis and my epidural had completely worn off. My doctor said I was so swollen I had to have a catheter otherwise I would swell shut and not be able to go to the bathroom. I was in more pain then I had ever been and I couldn't sit up. It took 20 minutes to get up, swing my legs over the bed, and actually get in the wheelchair. I thought I was going to pass out. When I got to the NICU it took another 20 minutes to get me from the wheelchair to the chair where I could feed her. They had taken the ventilator out of her throat and had her on oxygen, so I was able to breastfeed her for the first time at about 4pm. She was so sweet. She latched on right away and had no problem eating. What an amazing feeling! They told us she would be there for at least 2 weeks, but she was already making amazing progress.

Every three hours I would make my way over the the NICU to feed her, but the next morning at about 2am I got a call from Alexis' nurse asking where I was because they called every three hours to make sure I was awake to come feed her. She asked where I was and I said they never called so I didn't wake up. She said, "uhh... I just talked to you at 1:30 and you said you were on your way." That's how tired I was! I seriously have no memory of talking to her. I had only gone to sleep 2 hours earlier, so I guess it was easy to sleep talk. :) The next day she continued to get better and that night they said they felt she was stable enough to come sleep in our room although they would have to come get her a couple times throughout the night to monitor her. We were so excited, although it did mean even less sleep. :) We of course had to go back and forth between the NICU so they could monitor her, but it was nice having her next to us. I was still in an extreme amount of pain and they couldn't take the catheter out until Wednesday (the day after I was suppose to go home). They finally discharged me Thursday and I was going to just stay in the same room while Alexis was in the NICU, but to our surprise they told us she was well enough to go home Thursday too! They had to do a few more tests to make sure her infection was gone and had to do a 90 min car seat trial to make sure she could breathe ok, and she passed all of them and we were able to take her home! We are so grateful for the love that was shown to us by all and for the prayers that were offered in her behalf. I know it was because of the faith of others and power of God that she lived and recovered SO fast!
